A Movement Built for Performance
Inside the RM 17-02 is the RM17-02 manual-winding movement, constructed from grade 5 titanium plates and bridges. The titanium keeps the skeleton architecture strong and stable, while still appearing refined. Gold and blue PVD details bring just enough colour to move and stand out, balancing elegance with restraint. The movement also comes with a few useful features:- A 70-hour power reserve (give or take a bit)
- Function indicators that show whether you’re winding, setting the time, or in neutral
- A variable-inertia balance wheel to keep things stable
- A ceramic endstone on the tourbillon to cut down on friction and wear
RM 17-02 Tourbillon Ceramic Case Options: White or Black
The RM 17-02 comes in two ceramic versions — white ATZ and black. Both keep the classic Richard Mille tonneau shape, but they each give the watch a different feel.White ATZ Ceramic:
- Clean, modern, and bright. It has a fresh, refined look.
Black Ceramic:
- Darker and more serious. It has a sportier vibe and leans into the brand’s racing style.
- Ceramic isn’t just about looks either. It’s extremely hard, scratch-resistant, and very light. Combined with the titanium movement and a rubber strap, the watch is surprisingly comfortable even though it has a bold design.
RM 17-02 Tourbillon: Dimensions, Fit, and Everyday Use
The watch measures 40.1 mm in width, 48.15 mm in length, and 13.08 mm in thickness. It sounds big, but because the case is ceramic and the inside is titanium, it doesn’t feel heavy. The curved case also sits nicely on the wrist, making it easy to wear day to day. It includes 50 meters of water resistance, which might not make it a sports watch, but it’s enough to handle daily life without worry. The front and back sapphire crystals are also angled to reduce reflections, giving you a clear view of the movement from almost any angle.A Closer Look at Richard Mille’s Technical Mindset
Every part of the RM 17-02 reflects the brand’s design philosophy—use advanced materials, prioritise performance, and keep the engineering visible. A few subtle but meaningful details include:- Fast-rotating barrel for smoother torque
- Skeletonised design makes it strong without adding weight
- Grade 5 titanium baseplate to keep accuracy even under stress
- Bridges that are PVD-coated to add depth and visual contrast
